Osteopathy and Physiotherapy

Osteopathy and Physiotherapy are both manual therapies that involve manipulation of the body, exercise and lifestyle advice to help with a range of spinal, orthopaedic and sports injury complaints. Physiotherapy has evolved within the orthodox medical setting of hospitals whereas osteopathy evolved in the private sector. Traditionally osteopathy involved lots of joint manipulation and was part of the world of alternative or complementary medicine with varying amounts of professionalism between pracitioners. However in the year 2000 Osteopathy entered into the mainstream after becoming a fully regulated profession with guaranteed standards of education and practice. These days osteopaths are trained in many different hands-on massage and manipulation techniques applied directly to the muscles and joints of the body. There are some subtle differences in the approaches of the two professions but they are increasingly sharing more and more common ground.
"I had been to 8 different osteopaths before I was recommended to Robert, now I wouldn't go to anyone else other than him or one of his associates."

What makes us different?
We only select the best applicants, from the many that apply, to work in our clinics. Also, one of the defining features of our clinics is that all our osteopaths are trained in medical acupuncture and receive on-going in house training in addition to the excellent training that osteopaths now receive at undergraduate level. Furthermore our physios and osteopaths work as a team, sharing information and ideas so that you get the best from both professions. One reflection of this is that most of our osteopaths, unlike the majority nationwide, are trained in electrotherapy modalities such as ultrasound which can be very useful in treating certain tendon and ligament problems. Similarly several of our osteopaths have a background competing in sport at a high level or have completed postgraduate training in corrective exercise, personal training or clinical Pilates, giving them added appreciation of the workings of the human body and extra strings to their bows!
This has enabled us to build a reputation for thoroughness, breadth and depth which is why we receive many referrals from GP's and consultants for osteopathy and physiotherapy (including as part of an NHS osteopathy contract with Redbridge PCT).
