Our History and Our Mission

Welcome to the home page of Osteopathy Plus Ltd. Our first clinic was established in 2000 by the company’s director and state registered osteopath - Robert Shanks. Robert was exposed to physical therapy from a very early age by virtue of his mother being a state registered physiotherapist.

Our clinics feature a mix of physical therapies and techniques in addition to osteopathy. The ethos of the company is to bring together the very best from a range of respected physical and allied therapies. All of the therapists who work in our clinics are chosen for their expertise and are often trained in more than one therapy. We passionately believe in our healthcare therapists working as a functional clinical team, learning from each other and working in an open, honest and integrated way for the maximum benefit of our patients.

Since 2000 the clinical team has grown to consist of a number of health care professionals including a physiotherapist, several osteopaths, two remedial & sports massage therapists, three medical acupuncturists, a Pilates /  postural therapist, a personal trainer and a psychotherapist.

Osteopathy Plus' reputation for attention to detail and commitment to excellence continues to spread. In recent years we have treated a number of top athletes and sports people and assisted them in winning major national championships.

In 2008 Osteopathy Plus was proud to take a lead role in establishing The National Back Pain Helpline, the first telephone helpine operated by qualified, practising clinicians with specialist training in back pain and related disorders.

Physical Therapy Clinics

Our current clinics provide osteopathy, physiotherapy, sports massage, acupuncture  and other therapies in Chigwell (IG7), Woodford (IG8) and Waltham Abbey (EN9) mainly serve the surrounding communities of Hainault (IG6), Barkingside, Clayahall (IG5), South Woodford (E18), Buckhurst Hill (IG9), Loughton(IG10), Theydon Bois (CM16), Abridge (RM4), Gants Hill, Snaresbrook, Wanstead, Leyton, Leytonstone, Ilford(IG1), Redbridge, Waltham Crossand Epping (CM16).

Most of our patients pay privately for treatment although we also participate in a contract with Redbridge Primary Care Trust to provide NHS funded osteopathy. For osteopathy, physiotherapy and some of our other therapies we are registered with all major insurers (including BUPA and PPP), in addition we often receive referrals from local employers and personal injury insurers and solicitors.

We have close links with local private hospitals and consultants, we are more than happy to arrange scans, x-rays and referrals to the various specialists outside our clinics where appropriate.

Manual Handling Training and back care classes

We provide a range of services tailored to small, medium and large employers and other groups such as sports teams/clubs and special interest groups e.g. mother and baby groups, rambling clubs etc. These services take various forms, and range from providing honest and independent advice on orthopaedic pillows and sports braces, giving talks and demonstrations on the best way to stretch before and after exercise, how to look after your back, how to prevent injuries etc. If you are interested in any of these services please contact us for a quote.
